Traffic Citations

You can pay traffic citations at any driver’s license branch except for the Downtown Branch. (The Downtown Driver’s License Branch will refer you to the Hall of Justice where you can make a payment directly to District Court.) You must have the citation in order to make a payment. Payments must be made at least three (3) business days prior to your first court date. Payments can be made by phone at (866) 396-1751 or through the District Criminal/Traffic Division at (502) 595-4428. You may also make a payment in person at the District Criminal/Traffic Division at the Louis D. Brandeis Hall of Justice, 600 W. Jefferson St., Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Online payments can be made at ePay.

Kentucky State Traffic School

Court costs: $134.

There are two approved options to complete the Traffic School program: Online (Internet) and in-person (Classroom Instruction), and with either option you must still pay the $134 court costs.

ONLINE: To complete traffic school online, visit https://www.myimprov.com/traffic-school/kentucky/ and sign up for the online version of the Kentucky State Traffic School course. This course can be completed 100% online. The internet course will provide the same point reduction and license reinstatement benefits as the classroom course. The cost is $39 and it must be completed within 30 days of the driver’s referral/conviction date in order to avoid suspension of driving privileges.  Note: Before the driver can enroll in the online course, they must first receive a traffic school enrollment letter from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION: To complete traffic school via Classroom Instruction, you may register online at https://sts.ky.gov. State Traffic School classes last 4 hours and are conducted at various times and locations throughout the Commonwealth. It can take up to six weeks for the driver to be scheduled for a class. If the driver does not complete the class on their scheduled date, their license will be suspended. The cost is $15 and the driver must enroll within 30 days of their referral/conviction date in order to avoid suspension of their driving privileges.

  • Apply for the Classroom Instruction via phone at (502) 564-1257
  • Apply for the Classroom Instruction at District Criminal/Traffic counter or Driver’s Licenses branches
