Ignition Interlock Device (IID) & Ignition Interlock License (IIL)

IMPORTANT: The Ignition Interlock Device (IID) & Ignition Interlock License (IIL) process is regulated by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KTC), not by the Jefferson County Office of the Circuit Court Clerk (OCCC).

The Transportation Cabinet’s IID & IIL process includes multiple steps (The OCCC cannot give legal advice, and you may want to consult an attorney regarding the process.):

  • Obtain court authorization to apply for an IID
  • Submit an application to the Transportation Cabinet at a regional field office or at the Transportation Cabinet in Frankfort
  • If approved for the device, have it installed by a certified provider
  • Once the device has been installed, obtain a restricted driver’s license at the Bowman Field Driver’s License Branch

The Bowman Field branch is the ONLY branch in Jefferson County that will issue restricted driver’s licenses for IIDs at this time, and it processes these licenses ONLY between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
